John Crome was a British landscape painter who was born on December 22, 1768, in Norwich, England. He is best known for his paintings of the Norfolk countryside, and his work is often characterized by its use of rich colors and bold brushwork. Crome was a founding member of the Norwich Society of Artists, and he played an important role in the development of the Norwich School of painting.

Biography

Crome was born into a poor family, and he began working as a coach painter at the age of 14. He later studied with the landscape painter John Sell Cotman, and he began painting landscapes in the early 1790s. In 1803, Crome helped to found the Norwich Society of Artists, and he served as its president from 1805 to 1814.
