Disney's Early Life

Walt Disney was born in Chicago, Illinois, on December 5, 1901. He was the fourth of five children born to Elias Disney, a carpenter, and Flora Call Disney, a homemaker.

Disney's family was poor, but they were always supportive of his love of art. He began drawing at an early age, and he often sold his drawings to his classmates for a few cents apiece.

In 1906, Disney's family moved to Marceline, Missouri. Disney loved living in Marceline, and he often drew pictures of the town and its surroundings.

In 1917, Disney's family moved back to Chicago. Disney enrolled in McKinley High School, but he dropped out after two years to pursue a career as an artist.

Disney's Early Career

Disney's first job was as a commercial artist for a Kansas City advertising agency. He later worked as a staff artist for the Kansas City Star newspaper.

In 1920, Disney founded his own animation studio, Laugh-O-Gram Films. The studio produced several short animated films, but it went bankrupt in 1923.

After Laugh-O-Gram Films went bankrupt, Disney moved to Los Angeles, California. He founded a new animation studio, The Walt Disney Company, in 1923.

Mickey Mouse

In 1928, Disney created Mickey Mouse, a character that would become his most famous creation. Mickey Mouse was originally called Mortimer Mouse, but Disney's wife, Lillian, convinced him to change the name to Mickey.

Mickey Mouse first appeared in the short film Steamboat Willie. The film was a huge success, and it helped to establish Disney as a major force in the entertainment industry.

Over the next few years, Disney released a series of Mickey Mouse cartoons. The cartoons were very popular, and they helped to make Mickey Mouse one of the most recognizable characters in the world.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

In 1937, Disney released his first full-length animated film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The film was a huge success, and it helped to establish Disney as a major force in the entertainment industry.
